On 11 August 1932 – Indian Hockey Team won its second ever Gold medal in 1932 Los Angeles Olympics. The men’s field hockey matches during the 1932 edition were played at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum from 04th to 11th August.
The tournament was played in a round-robin format as only three teams i.e. hosts United States, Japan and India took part. Halfback Lal Shah Bokhari was the captain of Indian team. Roop Singh scored the highest number of goals (13) for India in the 1932 edition.
In first match India faced Japan. Dhyan Chand found the back of the net four times while Roop Singh and Gurmit Singh Kullar each scored hat-trick, Richard Carr also chipped in with a goal as India beat Japan 11 – 1. At halftime, India was leading 4 – 0. Junzo Inohara scored the lone goal for Japan. He also became the player to score against India in Olympics.
In the last league match India faced hosts United States. Roop Singh, Dhyan Chand, Gurmit Singh Kullar and Broome Pinniger scored 10, 8, 5 and 1 goal respectively for India, while William Boddington scored the only goal for the hosts as India thrashed the United States by world record score 24 – 1. India was leading 10 – 0 at half time
